Staphylococcus aureus is a major cause of infections both in hospitals and communities worldwide and has demonstrated resistance to commonly prescribed antimicrobial agents. This Gram-positive bacterium, commonly found in the environment, is part of the natural flora of humans. Over 60% of healthy individuals carry S. aureus on their skin and mucous membranes, particularly in the upper respiratory tract.
